  GRAND PRIX RALLY 2007

We ran strongly up to the third day – in second place – behind Geoff Beaumont.  My mistake, I hit a gutter and broke the suspension, which eventually caused our withdrawal from the event.  Many thanks to Doug Fernie and Jeff Bryant.

TARGA TASMANIA 2007

We overcame some early problems with the Porsche and tyres and completed scrutineering with the new tyres borrowed from Neill Ford.  Many thanks

The car ran very strongly throughout the event and we were very pleased to take a class win and Targa Trophy.  Many thanks for Doug Fernie, Jeff Bryant and Warren Jenkins.

Grand Prix Rally 2006

GP Rally ’06 saw a very tight competition, we were delighted to run 3rd Outright and a podium finish/presentation at the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit.

Also attached(PDF) copy of article from Rally Sport Magazine May 2006, a great write-up on the Porsche and its competition history and report on GP Rally ’06.

Targa Tasmania 2006

At the prologue at Georgetown, the Porsche GT2 finished 11th Outright just missing a Top Ten place by 2 x 100th of a second!!!!!!

The prosche ran strongly during the week. Conditions were dry until the final after;-)noon on the West Coast where the roads were wet and very slippery. The tyre problems experienced in previous years did not re-occur.

We finished 1st in class and category and won Targa Gold Trophy for 3 consecutive year of Targa Trophy’s ‘04, ‘05 and ‘06.

We are all thrilled with this achievement which is due to the commitment of the team. My personal heartfelt thanks to:-

Doug Fernie – Navigator/Co-Driver
Jeff Bryant – Support Crew
Ian Allmey – Support Crew
And to my beautiful granddaughter, Arabella (3yrs) for the world’s best hi 10 for good luck at the official start.

TARGA TASMANIA ‘05

The world's premier tarmac car rally – racing on closed public roads throughout Tasmania .

The Kalnin Corporation Porsche 911,996,GT2, driven by Laurence Kalnin, Co-Driver/Navigator Doug Fernie was placed 15 th outright (255 entrants) at the prologue in Georgetown .

Day 1 of Competition was in mostly dry sunny conditions through 7 closed road stages and a street ‘town stage' at Longford.

At completion of day one competition the Porsche led its class by 1.05 minutes.

Day 2 was from Launceston to Hobart , down the east coast of Tasmania in wet conditions through 8 closed road stages and a ‘town stage' at Triabunna.

Wet and slippery conditions were not ideal for the Porsche being twin turbo 2WD – but all stages were completed within the Targa competitive times.

During post competition mechanical/servicing a problem with a tyre was found, requiring a replacement (the first of 3) incurring a penalty of 2 minutes.

Day 3 – South of Hobart saw similar conditions through 8 closed road stages.

Day 4 – Hobart to Burnie through 8 closed road stages and a flying lap at Symmons Plains' race track.

On the transport stage from Symmons Plains to Mole Creek we had a flat tyre. It is not possible to carry a spare wheel/tyre in the Porsche as it simply doesn't fit in the trunk or cabin due to roll cage etc. The service crew worked nothing short of a miracle to replace the wheel in time for us to make the Mole Creek stage within our required report time by 2 minutes albeit that the stage had been closed and we were awarded a “deemed” Targa time.

All other stages were completed within required competitive times, however another tyre problem was found at Burnie servicing. Eventually we were able to buy a spare tyre from a very considerate fellow competitor which was fitted in readiness for the 5 th and final day of competition.

Day 5 is down the famous West Coast of Tasmania to the finish in Hobart with 8 closed road stages and a ‘town stage' at New Norfolk. 6kms into the 47km Mount Arrowsmith stage we were one of the first vehicles to arrive at a major accident almost completely blocking the road. We stopped at the scene and were advised that the co-driver/navigator had sustained a neck injury and we were asked to drive on and advise the next emergency/rescue (FIV) of the accident and that medical attention was required.

We complete this stage on a ‘deemed' time and completed all other stages within Targa Competition time.

We crossed the finish line in Hobart on Sunday night with at the time, unresolved issues with Race Official's re- timing. Doug approached the officials and was able to resolve these matters and we were absolutely thrilled to be awarded a Targa Trophy.

We dedicate the Trophy entirely to our support crew, Jeff, Anthony, Andrew, Ange, Tony and Bill whose skill and dedication kept us running competitively and within stringent time requirements. We extend our thanks and gratitude to each of you and to your collective effectiveness.
